Today we had a lazy morning, got up late and took our time breakfasting. Around noon we left the house and walked to Clapham North Station. We got out at Moorgate and walked to the Museum of London. It's been a while since I've been to a proper Museum, I don't even remember the last time I visited one, it was probably Changdok Kung in Seoul.
This one though was kind of fun actually. To be honest I can't get into ancient history. But I've really got into this German band from the 90s, Bellini. They had this uber funky hit called Samba de Janiero. I can't stop myself from listening to it on repeat all day long. We didn't manage to see the photo exhibition at the museum because like always that idiot Patrick fucked it up again, but at least we managed to eat nice pizza afterwards thanks to his token. The pizza place had this strange setting. It had huge glass windows which looked out onto the modernist architecture and street below. Super futuristic yet very desolate at the same time. Next we went to Sao Paulo Catedral AKA St Pauls Cathedral (via the Hotel Chocolat which is not actually a hotel). Coffee was drunk. We walked across the Millenium Bridge where we were asked how we were doing, and arrived at the Tate Modern. Fucking big. Said hello to Ai Weiwei. The UK is such an amazing place, I love it here so much better than Korea and Germany, they suck ass. Gayoung got drunk though in the gallery and she had to be escorted out by secuirty guards, kicking and screaming. It was a little bit embarassing to be honest. After we had all calmed down a little bit, we walked along the Southbank. Saw a dead body on the bank of the Thames. Krispy Kreme then home.
The bit about ancient history is true, for me it became interesting by the time they showed architectural stuff and then later modern London. I learned that by 1714 there were more than five hundred coffee houses in London, although I always thought it was all about the tea here. In 1863 London had established the first underground railway of the world. The end of the course showed an exhibition called 'Postcards from the Future', pictures of famous London monuments in a fictive future.
After our meal at the pizza place we went out into the deserted streets. The short walk to St. Paul's was fantastic really, it felt like we were the only people left on the planet. It made me think about Guy Montag from Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, that must be a crazy life. Actually I also feel like reading 1984 again, it's been a while.
P treated us to coffee and we sipped it on our way to Tate Modern. We crossed the Millenium Bridge and watched the foggy city left and right from us. Tate showed Ai Weiwei's Sunflower Seeds: over a hundred million tiny seeds, each of them handpainted, covering the floor of the gigantic hall that used to be a power station. Super impressive.
Just as great were the other floors of the museum. We saw so much brilliant artwork, it was crazy motivating. I never knew it, but I think I like Picasso. I really hope that doesn't sound like 'I like the Beatles'.
