To get to the exhibition hall I have to take the overground from Camden Road to West Brompton. It's been a few years since I had my last job on a fair, that's why I'm taking this one so seriously. Plus, it's the first time to be dealing with people in English. It's an exciting experience and I don't want to mess it up, because first of all my dear friend P's name is at stake, and second of all it's an amazing opportunity to practice my communication skills in terms of selling and representing.
Yesterday was super long, we had to work unbelievable twelve hours with only a lunch break of forty-five minutes. Twelve hours of mostly standing and talking, talking in English and Korean, sometimes at the same time. You have to memorize the names of all the items, the facts on all the designs, the story behind the patterns. If you're used to work a nine-to-five job, this project must feel like hell to endure, but to be honest, I kind of like it. Sure it's hard, but I actually enjoy it.
I'm assigned to NJ Lighting, a young company that does hand-made ceramic lamps. The designers are a married couple in their late thirties who are used to taking care of all sides of the business themselves: design, production, marketing, sales, everything. Now, for the fair they have to leave most of the talking to me and it's quite funny to see them getting antsy when someone shows real interest in their products. Of course I do my best to represent the brand and I think things are working out just fine.
