I woke up this morning not to the alarm clock that I had set half asleep last night, but to the grumpy sounds of grown men lamenting about their aching joints. Pretending to be still asleep I lay on my back, consciously checking each part of my body for errors or pains. My right thigh was a little sore, but that was only proof that I did indeed skate yesterday.
Reassured of my functioning physique I tried to go back to sleep. Of course, I failed. We all got up and put on the Stance socks that we collectively received as a gift from Kadence's Ryan. Our second day started off with a mandatory visit at one of those famous burger joints, followed by another mandatory stop at one of those famous coffee and doughnut stores.
Gwangju is the sixths biggest city in Korea. It's the capital of South Joella Province and has a population of around one point five million, which is six times more than Mokpo. We drove around with our noses attached to all the windows of the van, hungry sets of eyes looking for spots. That's how at a random kinked ledge Bart and Gun-hoo got a sequence each.
Next was a spot that Kyeung-min had seen when he was in Gwangju on another skate trip. Daniel, Nak and I got off the car and started shooting while the others went on in search for more. Daniel once more left me in awe with a ollie up, kickflip backside nosegrind revert on a hip-high ledge. He didn't make it, but he landed a picture-perfect ollie up, back tail bigspin out.
It was an amazing spot and Daniel's skating pushed me too, I got a sequence as well. Soon the van showed up again and we joined the crew to get to the next spot, the Sejong University campus. 1JM hip hop heelflipped a five stair gap so steezy that there was nothing else left to do there. Again we packed up and moved on, this time to the local main spot.
Kyeung-min tried to five-oh a marble kind of ledge on a bridge. Perhaps the water underneath distracted him, but he didn't manage to land it even after a hundred tries. The locals took us to an awkward dinner nearby and we checked out some other spots that I would've loved to skate. Well, now it was too late. We had to move on to our next stop: Jeonju.
