I got this book at Skoobs, the second hand book store near Russell Square. I went there with Dahomes some weeks ago and bought a couple of volumes that day. One of them was this novel, which reads like a clever collection of short stories, by Tom Rachman. It's his debut publication and I find it amazing. Especially the first piece is written so much to my liking that I'm probably going to read it again after I finish the rest.
The stories take place in Rome, revolving around the staff of an English newspaper that was founded in the 1950s. All the characters are superwell imaginable and their actions are somehow connected. It's a great read, I think. The characters are fun to meet, the sentences are composed in a smart way, I really liked it. It's the right choice if you're in the mood for something witty but not too wordy, if that makes any sense.
