The first
time I came to Korea on my own, that was after graduating high-school
in 2004, I lived in a little subterrainean spot in Shingildong. The
closest subway station was Yeongdeungpo and on the way home there was
a park called OB Park. Over the years they have made some massive
changes and the most important improvement is that they made is
skateable. The ground is smooth and there's a number of marble
blocks, even a decent manual pad.
Last year my
friend Seungwook established a web magazine called dooonuts.com. It's
about skateboarding and life and it displays many different aspects
of what we do – in skateboarding and in life. Each issue is a
little film that focuses on what's been happening in the Korean skate
scene. He asked me if I wanted to film for a section called spooots,
where a skater takes the viewers to his favorite spot and introduces
it with a short message and a few tricks.
We met up in
Shinchon and took a taxi over to Yeongdeungpo. It was a super hot day
and it looked like rain in the afternoon. We had only a few hours to
film and I felt a little under pressure, because I didn't want to
mess it up. I mean, at the end we got a couple of clips, but thinking
about it now there's a bunch of other tricks and lines I should have
tried. My thoughts about today are plagued by regrets, but well, I'm
sure there's gonna be another chance someday. For now I'm just very
glad that we did this.
