Not too long ago, I was wandering through the back alleys of Itaewon when suddenly - out of the corner of my eye- I spotted the name of one of my favorite hip hop artists. It was printed on a poster, plastered on the concrete wall of a bar that I have only good memories of. I noted the date and walked on in excitement. Back at home I went through my humble music archive and played some Beat Installments.
One of the best things about working at a magazine is that I get to contact people who I would personally never have a chance to approach. I mean, I probably could, but I would have no particular reason, which makes it a lot more difficult. As a contributing editor I can propose an idea to the group, mostly names and their works, and see where it goes from there. If the editor-in-chief gives his approval I start typing an email.
My first interview was a young artist from London called David Fleck, some of his illustrations are here on my blog. The second one was a Korean producer called Master Class. His latest album contains genius beats, it's already one of my favorites. For this issue I picked Dj Mitsu the Beats, a superdope deejay from Japan. It's only a short piece, but that's not important. Some things are bigger than that.
