Get On Board

Do you remember when Don Cornelius hosted Soul Train? No, me neither. Because that was more than forty years ago. The Chicago-based show was on the air until 2006, which I find quite impressive. Thousands of groovy gigs went down and entertained countless American living rooms on weekday afternoons. I wonder what that must've been like.

In Itaewon there is a bar called Soul Train. They could've named it Seoul Train, super cheesy, but I think people would have liked it. It's hidden on the second floor of a sidestreet behind the Hamilton, a stone's throw away from the Irish bar where we used to hang out for the longest time. Hang and Gi-woun discovered the place one night and took us there.

It's a small spot, dimmed with a lot of wood. A lengthy bar is on the left, bearing a look on a massive cd collection. A good number of round tables block the dancing area, but that has never bothered us. We usually sit or stand at the bar, sipping beers and gin tonics, jotting down funky songs on small pieces of paper until all the other customers leave. The owner loves us.
