Busan - Day 1

The first time I visited Busan was in 2006. Back then it was a skate trip with the 우후청산 team. That was a great time. My days consisted of skating and eating, my worries were simpler. I pondered about how to do this or that trick and wondered where to get some money for bread. It was a fabulous time that I wouldn't want to miss for anything in the world. It shaped me as a person.

After that I went to Busan several other times, always with my skateboard in the luggage compartment above my head. This time was different. This time I met Sumin at the station. We got coffee and doughnuts for provisions and boarded the highspeed train. I had some translations breathing down my neck and spent half of the ride working on them. The other half we planned our stay.

We got out of the station and the sky was wearing a friendly blue. We decided to stay near Gwangan. On our way we passed an underground second hand store filled with old clothes and accessories. I found a nice suit jacket, but it didn't fit right. I finally bought some trousers that turned out to be too small. But it didn't matter, because everything else of this vacation was just right.

In Gwangan we checked in an ocean view room on the sixth floor of a small hotel. In the afternoon we found a coffee shop where we sat uncomfortably, but talked for the longest time. The hot drink and the heated floor warmed us up enough so that we could go for a walk on the beach. It's funny how a three-hour train ride brings you to a place so different to what you see everyday.
