Esther is a fourteen year-old girl who has outstanding knowledge of everything and is crazy skilled at playing the piano and all that. She's almost too good to be true. And lo and behold, it turns out, there's actually something wrong with her. She's really a fourty year-old, depressed woman who's genetically captured in the body of a child. Have you seen that film? Very disturbing.
The other day I saw a girl who could've been Esther. She had a childish physique, skinny arms and legs and a round little face. She was a kid, sitting in front of the door to her home. I thought she was holding a pen and playing tetris, but as I approached her I realized that she was smoking a cigarette and texting. She could've been just a premature school girl, but not in the realm of Seoul Station that morning.
And why am I telling you all this? I don't know. I suddenly remembered that girl. It was a sunshiny day and that smoking, texting child was all I could think about on the way to Sinsa Station, where I had this job interview. Now, of course, it's the position and the job conditions that I think about instead, but I think that maybe it took Esther for me to realize I should use my energy on things of greater importance.
