I woke up to a rusty “g'morning” and needed a while to comprehend the
situation. I took a deep breath, scanned the room and went back to sleep. I was
lying on the floor, but not uncomfortably. And as I lay there, I thought about
yesterday and smiled at the lazy Sunday morning, also smiled at the doubts that
I had about moving to Korea.
The one condition under which Gi-woun was willing to join us on this
trip was to leave early today. Early as in, well, earlier than the rest of us,
because he had some important business back in Seoul. He had bought a train
ticket first thing after arrival yesterday, and his train was leaving around
noon. We had a toast and jam breakfast and said good-bye.
Our Expo friends were all at work and Jeunes, Dongmin and I grew antsy.
We decided to leave Yeosu and drive back to Seoul after lunch. Of course we
couldn’t find the right restaurant and changed the plan. We were going to
Jeonju to get some Bibimbap action. Dongmin sat in the front seat and I could
lazily occupy the rear bench.
Jeonju is the capital of the North Jeolla Province. It has a population
of 650.000 and the city is famous for its deep historical and cultural
features. We drove all the way there to have lunch. We found a cosy old-school place
in the Hanok Village that served very tasty food, amazing Kimchi. It’s
definitely worth a trip, not only because of the food.
It was a crazy hot day and walking around wasn’t easy. Still, we managed
a nice little tour and got some Chu Chu Bar and Goo Goo Cone ice cream before
we got on the road again. It took another couple of hours, but a little nap
helped to shorten the time once again. When I woke up, we were driving through
the evening streets of Gangnam. I couldn’t believe it, suddenly our trip felt
unreal.
