The other day I talked to an old friend and he said, man I can't
believe it's August already. He told me about the dullness that his
job was and how it made every day similar to yesterday. The year is
already almost gone, he said. The year is almost gone and I haven't
done anything remotely exciting yet. I told him to hold on a second,
I'm sure you've done plenty of exciting things. And you have almost
half a year left to make up for anything you've missed out on.
We talked some more, about this and that, and hung up with a promise
to grab a drink soon. When I think about this year, I have to say,
I'm quite satisfied so far. Looking back on the passed couple of
months I realise that I've been in three different countries, on two
different continents. And even though I would gladly add some more places to the list, I feel quite lucky already. I don't know, travelling doesn't work for everybody, but for me it's a source of happiness.
So many things have happened this year, both good and bad, that I
honestly don't feel like complaining much about it. Everything
belongs to the past already, and that's why I tend to forget quickly,
but that doesn't necessarily give me reason to complain. Look at
things in a negative way and there's no end to it. Phoebe's über-enthusiastic boyfriend
Parker, who loves everything and takes mental
pictures, might be a bit too much, but I think he's got a
valuable point.
