Before I left for good I wanted to meet Tobs one more time. We met at Mario's to grab lunch, diavolo pizza and drinks. It was a humid day and just as I left home a sudden shower surprised me. I walked the two hundred metres holding a green umbrella. I got there first and ordered coffee, and two minutes later Tobs walked in just before my cappuccino arrived.
The news was showing events from all over the world. There was a ruthless flood in Japan, something dry about the economy and finally the weather forecast. It was like any other time we would meet, even though this time was definitely different, preloaded with a heavy departure. And yet it didn't feel any different. We talked and laughed in between bites and sips.
There's not too many people who I can be that comfortable with. And perhaps that's why I still don't realise that I'm leaving leaving. I'm not sure when it will hit me, but for now I feel nothing out of the ordinary. Usually it slowly dawns on me at the airport, the check-in, the ticket, parting with my suitcase, waiting at the gate, that's when I normally realise, ok this is real.
