About Seoul

What kind of place is Seoul? Whenever people ask me that question I don't know what to say. So here are some facts. Seoul, as the capital of South Korea, has a population of over ten million people. That's three times Rome, four times Paris, and a hundred and eighty times Euskirchen. The larger metropolitan area houses twenty-five million souls.

Korea has nearly fifty million inhabitants (Germany has eighty-one million) on a hundred thousand square kilometres. That means that half the country's people live in and around Seoul, which makes its population twice as dense as New York. Only in Paris more people live on each square metre. Talk about Landflucht and urbanisation.

Seoul is divided into twenty-five districts, and each district is again divided into numerous neighbourhoods. Like many great cities there are more traditional ones and ultra modern ones, which gives colour to each of the districts. Public travelling is super convenient, the subway system is the best I've ever seen. Eight million people use it every day.

I don't know, there's plenty to say about this city. History, architecture, economy, education etc. but for me right now all of that is of secondary interest. What matters, and what I have to realise, is that I'm here. Today. And I'm looking forward to this adventure. Important things are happening everyday and I hope things will turn out the way I want them to.
