Today I watched The Graduate, directed by Mike Nichols. He also did Catch-22, which was a book first, a novel by Joseph Heller, and recently Closer, which originally was a play by Patrick Marber, who, apparently, is a stand-up comedian. But, what I liked most about the film was the acting. Anne Bancroft and Dustin Hoffman. And it's even better after watching him talk about it here.
The film is from 1967. That's fourty-five years ago. Think about it, fourty-five. I find that pretty amazing. To leave something behind, a product of creative genius, that somebody in a different time and a random spot in the world watches and talks about. I mean, it was probably talked about all the time by all kinds of people, but again, that's certainly a grand achievement.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that, in my opinion, great inspiration can be found in all sorts of places. Sometimes it's out there, hidden in the streets, and other times it's rather obviously presenting itself to you in a book, or staring at you through a photograph. And, well, sometimes it lies in a movie character. Odd, isn't it. But then, why not. I mean, whatever works. Whatever makes you think.
