Some Things Don't Change

Today I sat on a curb at the same old spot, taking a break from skating. A few days ago Tobs helped me to a new deck, a red mini-logo that I abrasively transformed into a blank wooden beauty. And today I went out to give it a ride. I tried new shoes as well, and I don't like them. Not yet. But to just go out and push along the streets and sidewalks made up for the discomfort.

As I sat there I realised, that I have been sitting at the same exact spot, looking at the same exact street fifteen years ago. As a kid we used to come here a lot. Why here, I don't know. It's a good corner to hang out at, I guess. Later, when we started skating, the meeting point naturally became our first skate spot. There's nothing really there to skate, but I keep coming back. I can't help it.

The air was thick, it was certainly going to rain in the evening, and I had trouble catching my breath. My feet were aching and I decided then and there that I would try another pair next time. These, I thought, are too thin. Too thin. I looked at them and shook my head. I wasn't so picky ten, twelve years ago. If I had any shoes to skate in, I was pleased. I sighed, got up and continued pushing.
