One of Those Things

Sometimes people see me and start laughing. And some of those times I tell myself that it's not because of what they see, which is me, but because of something else, like ... I don't know, and, frankly, I don't care, something else eben. But sometimes I know for sure, I see it from the corner of my eye. They're laughing because of me, and since I don't usually run around cracking people up, they're certainly laughing at me.

It's nothing new, and I'm sure everybody gets it, but it's something that didn't happen when I was in London. People look and sometimes nod, but they don't laugh. It happens a lot when I'm here. I'm not saying that our town is a bad place, but elsewhere kids don't point their fingers at me and tell their parents, elsewhere elderly men don't stop walking to stare at me, while their wives tighten their grip on the dog leash.

It's really no big deal, it's just one of those things. Tobs once asked me what it is that I liked so much about Korea that I keep going there. Apart from the heritage-connected reasons, I said, I don't know. Well, now I think I'd have an answer for him. In Korea people don't give me shit about the way I look. But hey, like I said, it's no big deal. It's just one of those things. One of those things that piss me off sometimes.
