Today I had my second exam. Readings in Korean. Room G2. Ironically,
that was the room that I went to when I first got here last
year. I remember, I had to wait in a cue, show my id and some papers,
and finally I was registered as a proper student. After that everyone
had to go up to the third floor and fetch their student card. That
was the beginning.
I remember how exclusive I felt after I got my card. It felt great to
be an official member of SOAS and to hold something evident in my
hands. Before, I had to sign in at the front desk and receive a
sticker that said VISITOR to get in. Now I could walk through the
bars with a swift scan. I was part of it now and I felt like I had
already accomplished something.
After today I won't have many reasons to make use of my card anymore.
I will probably keep it in my wallet for sentimental reasons. Hidden
behind some other card that I use more frequently. I'll accidentally
pull it out of its pocket every now and then and think back of the
good times I've had. My life in London, UK. It's amazing how
quickly time passes.
