I don't know much about jazz music and its origins or how it has developed. I like to listen to some of it, but I don't know much about it. But, reading this book, I feel like I want to be part of it. It's a shame that I didn't grow up playing any instrument. I wish I knew how to pound on the piano, or bounce with the bass, but well, unfortunately, I don't.
Nevertheless I'm really enjoying this book. It first came out in 1991 and gained recognition all over the world. Frankly, I've never heard of him before, but the writing by Geoff Dyer is much to my liking. Distinct voices and witty choice of words. What I like most about this book, though, is that it gives speech to people who probably didn't even talk all that much.
