The Sunset Limited

Originally a play, first performed in 2006, this book by Cormac McCarthy was made into a television film last year. Tommy Lee Jones, who also directed the film, and Samuel L. Jackson play the two only characters of the story. I've watched the film probably more than twenty times now, I really like it. Not only because of the contents of their speech and the topics discussed, but also because of the two actors and their super mellow voices, the way they talk and perform the dialogue.

The book I found in a shop near Brick Lane, a rather small store that holds a lot of printed goodness, and I'm especially fond of the cover of this edition. You know how often come across films that are adaptations of super good books and they never reach the level of the original goodness? In this case it's not like that. Most of all, I guess, because it is a play to begin with, but also because the words are nearly exactly the same, and because I've seen the film first, I can hear the two voices while I'm reading. It's fun, give it a try.
