Almost Done with the Room

Alright, things are looking great so far and yesterday they even got a little better, because yesterday I decided what to do with that big empty piece of wall above my bed. First I thought about getting a few old frames, put pictures of my friends and family in there and arrange them in a clean and symmetric way, but then I realized that I didn't bring any pictures. I also considered buying a bookshelf, but I didn't bring any books, either. Plus, I would probably have to drill holes in the wall, and of course I don't have any tools here.

So I decided to put up a few decks, just like I did in my old place in Seoul. I brought two decks, the Zoo York that I'm currently riding and the Ponkes that I bought in Helsinki with Tobs back in January. But hanging a single deck on that wall wasn't gonna do the job. That's why I went out today to get another one, maybe two. I know, buying two decks that I probably won't even skate while I'm here sounds like a stupid idea, but it's not. It's actually a pretty smart investment, if you think about it. Well, it's an investment.

I first went to a shop close to Camden Lock which I came across when I was checking out the area. I walked along Camden High Street all the way down to Chalk Farm till it got boring. I crossed the street, got a super healthy broccoli and zucchini soup dinner and started walking back. That's when I saw it. It's more of a snowboard shop, but they had a few decks in the basement. I bought a Palace deck, the only 7,5'' they had, but it's got a great shape and an artsy graphic. And it's a local brand, too.

Before I left the shop I asked the guy for any skateable spots around the area. He told me about this little cement park not too far away, close enough to walk. I followed his instructions and found it right away. I was surprised to find such a great spot, basically just around the corner. It's not huge, but it's still way better than anything we have back at home. What's missing is a propper manual pad, but the flat is amazing and the ledges are fantastic. I don't care too much for the bowl, but the banks are surely fun to skate.

Near the park there's another skate shop, it's called Tres Amigos and appears to be a small store. It holds mostly decks and shirts and seems to be supporting the local scene by hooking up a few kids with some gear. It's the kind of shop you want to support as a skater as well. Too bad they didn't have anything good. Now I've put two decks on the wall and it makes the room so much better, such a great addition. All I need now is a mirror and perhaps a trash bin and I'll be done with my decoration action.
