The Right Ingredients

I've been back in Germany for merely a few days now and life at home has me captured and harnessed like an oven potato is wrapped in aluminium foil. There are things to do which are right there as if they had been waiting for me to come back. Sure, some of them I've been planning myself and some of them I was sort of expecting, but then there's also a bunch of stuff that I couldn't foresee. Working off a to-do-list is fine, but if unpredictable duties come up, it's just super annoying.

Sometimes though, in the midst of an otherwise dark and depressive day, something happens that surprises you in a good way. A few days ago I was in Bonn to take care of a few things, when suddenly my phone rang and the voice on the other end asked me to grab a five-liter canister of some liquid cooking ingredient on my way back home. So instead of taking the train right away, I had to walk twenty minutes, buy some stupid canister, carry that twenty minutes back to the station, and then take the train home.

An hour later I was back at the station, sitting on an uncomfortable metal bench, the white labelled canister at my feet, sipping coffee that tasted alright but not good and waiting for the next train, which, due to my detour, was not arriving for another quarter of an hour. The coffee made it bearable, but I was still in no good mood. And then suddenly out of nowhere my old friend Simon from back home appears in front of me. He was in Bonn, too, to check up on some things and was now on his way back.

Simon is one of my two Baguette Brothers, it's him and Tobs. He just got back from New York a few weeks ago and is currently residing at home as well, still looking for a new place. Tobs has recently started a new line of work and is therefore in town every now and then. And since there's only this one place that is not shit, the Boulangerie, that's where we usually meet up and grab a bite. I was so glad to see Simon on the platform that day, my foul mood had vanished instantly and I could enjoy a super mellow train ride with him and the canister.
