On watching Movies

I'm not too much of a cineast,  I think, but I sure like watching movies. I definitely enjoy going to the movies every once in a while, but I guess I'm more the homey kick back with a snack type of guy. Lately I've been watching a lot of them films and I think the question of which movie to pick is always a tricky one and I'm sure everyone has his own ways.

I rarely have a particular movie in mind. Most of the times I decide by genre first and then go by actor or actress. For example, last night I watched You kill Me. I was in the mood for Comedy and Crime, but not as in Fun with Dick and Jane. But then I liked the idea of Tea Leoni and stood between Bad Boys and You Kill Me. And then Ben Kingsley won over Will and Martin, and so the decision was made.

I had already watched both of them, but I like rewatching movies. Not only because I find it fun to rediscover the little things, but also because I think that once you like a movie, it almost never lets you down. But, to rewatch a movie you have to watch it for a first time first, right? And the fun thing about that, I think, is how you have a certain expectation  to a picture.

I guess sometimes you watch a movie with rather high expectations and then it fails to meet them. Happened so with Greenberg. I was looking forward to see Ben Stiller doing something fresh, but it somehow didn't work for me. Actually, I found Greta and Rhys more interesting to watch than Ben.

On the other hand, when a you watch a movie that turns out to be a lot more entertaining than you thought, it's great. Last time that happened to me was with Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I think sometimes it has a lot to do with identifying one's self with a character. Another movie that turned out to be very different than I expected was Click. I think it's brilliant.

Well, yesterday it was You Kill Me and I enjoyed it a lot. My snack was a microwaved Currywurst and half of a Hawaii Käsebrötchen split in half and pimped with Frischkäse, Salami, a slice of Pumpernickel and young Gouda. Plus, a cup of black coffee, of course. I enjoyed that, too.
