Today I finished rereading 'Kafka am Strand'. I read it about five
years ago, but recently thought about checking it out again. I think I
like rereading books. I often hear people say that rereading books makes them recognize stuff that they overread the first time. I agree, I think it's quite amazing, to see the things you recognize and things you had completely forgotten. Also, when rereading, I think I try to pay more attention to other things, too. Like
text structure or Satzmelodie, the flow of words.
Now, as I have finished the Murakami, I find myself indecicive what to read next. Different to getting new books, picking a book to read is never easy, I think. What language do I feel like reading, novel or short stories, fiction or non-fiction? A friend of mine, he goes by the name of Scott from Canada, told me how Kerouac is changing his life. Beatnik pops into mind, maybe I should try something in that direction.
Oh and yesterday something funny happened. I was working on something, I don't remember what it was. Sitting on the small sofa, there's my bed behind me and two fake-wooden book shelves on the wall. A couple of days ago I took the three books I bought in Helsinki and added them to the lower shelf. Now yesterday, as I was typing something just like I'm doing now, the bookshelf came down and landed on the bedside. It made a short scratching sound and then just dropped down to the bed. That's some heavy literature, I thought, and was sad about the two holes in my wall. So maybe I should pick up something from that shelf first.
