The New Sociolinguistics Reader

This book is a collection of essays by a number of scholars who really seem to know what they're talking about. From syntactic variation and communication accommodation to discourses of orthography, this baby is loaded with research questions and clever answers. I admit that this is no piece of literature that I've read completely voluntarily, but it does contain some fascinating stuff. If you're interested in the science of speech, go grab this book and have a look.
